Maxine Marsh

March meeting was a demonstration by Maxine on flowers in watercolour and ink. Maxine drew inspiration from the lovely hellebores that are flowering at present and started with a very basic pencil sketch to guide her through the composition process. A tiny amount of masking fluid was used to mask the stamems. Wetting the paper she proceeded to add her colour lightly, taking care to leave white areas, and sprinkling salt to add to the textured effect. Deeper colours followed in both watercolour and ink brush pens. Various brush sizes were used throughout to maximize effects in the different parts of the painting. The work was dried and the masking removed before finishing with a fine black pen in a lovely loose light manner. Throughout the demonstration Maxine answered many questions on her techniques and the materials used.
